Post September 11

The events of September 11, 2001, unfortunately, show the psycholoogical and emotional impact such trama can have.  Many Americans experienced symptoms of post-traumatic stress as they struggled with the devastation of September 11, 2001 and with the fear and uncertainty that has followed.

In a poll conducted a few days after the attacks, 71% said they were depressed, 49% complained of difficulty concentrating and 33% reported insomnia. Surveys by other organizations have had similar findings.

The New England Journal of Medicine reported that five to eight weeks after the attacks 20 percent of those living closest to the World Trade Center reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and almost 17% percent said they had symptoms of depression.
